West Portal – Real Estate

West Portal is an authentic San Francisco neighborhood that hasn’t changed much over the last several decades.  It’s main street, West Portal Avenue, is an upscale yet low-key shopping corridor of numerous restaurants, coffee shops, several ice cream stores, bookstores, Irish pubs and a movie theater.  You’ll see plenty of locals shopping and seeking entertainment here during the day and evening, with their kids and dogs.  There are local grocers, fruit stands and even a local hardware store, Papenhausen, where they personally serve you.

It feels like its’ own little town tucked between Forest Hill Extension, Miraloma Park and the mansions of St. Francis Woods. West Portal was named for the Twin Peaks tunnel that sits at the top of West Portal Avenue, bringing in several Muni lines, connecting this neighborhood to downtown in 12 minutes on a good day.

On the surrounding streets and hills find beautiful Mediterranean & Craftsman detached homes, villas, and vintage apartments buildings, most with impressive rear yards, home to mostly upper middle class families.  Noticeable is the impressive and beautiful landscaping in this neighborhood. The housing doesn’t turn quickly here, with its’ exclusive feel and comfortable neighborhood vibe, residents tend to stay put. Close to major thoroughfare Junipera Serra, the I-280 and I-101 are nearby for an easy Peninsula commute.
