Potrero Hill – Real Estate

Just South of SOMA and Mission Bay, Potrero Hill was once a mostly industrial neighborhood which is now populated by young families and the tech workforce. Sought after as much for its sunny hillside and sweeping views as it’s isolated quiet feel with easy access to downtown. The flatlands below the hills have been transformed from old factories, warehouses and industrial spaces to thriving offices or imaginative residential home conversions.

The shopping area has a relaxed laid-back vibe on 18th Street while the main thoroughfare of 16th Street offers big box shopping options, malls and an a design district. It’s most popular neighborhood is Dog Patch, known for it’s dog park.

The North side has seen much new office construction, and in the South and East new modern condos arise amidst tasteful brick and mortar renovations and ongoing large industrial operations. It quiets down at night when local business shuts down, though features newer chic restaurants, clubs and pubs, shops and even a Whole Foods. Note that almost every house has a garden or flower box which harkens to a time when residents chipped in to bring city water and irrigation to the area during the 1960’s.

Be prepared to join a community that is comfortable watching the fog roll in below and prepare for friendly competition when purchasing your home with those who seek a contemporary lifestyle or the chance to renovate the classic dwellings to meet today’s needs.
